Crabber 26 - Twin Keels
Friday, 08 March 2013
For a while now we have been discussing options to allow our Crabber 26 to dry out level on hard ground. Drying out on soft mud is simple, the boat simply sinks in. On harder surfaces it is much harder to make a boat sit level.
Now we have the answer. The simple addition of two optional bilge keels to the existing bilge runners allow the boat to sit perfectly flat on even the hardest ground. Their design allows them to be retrofitted to existing boats or fitted from new. Using CNC technology we were able to create profiled sections which will minimise drag and create some additional lift when sailing to windward. In shallow water they will improve manoeuvrability with the centreboard raised. The keels are manufactured from GRP and are filled solid for additional strength. In the event of a very hard grounding the keels are designed to be sacrificial so as not to damage the existing hull structure. This is a feature which we deemed very important for those who really want to push the limits of shallow water sailing.
If you are interested in a new Crabber 26 with these additional keels or wish to have them fitted to your existing boat then please get in touch.
